How to choose a face primer

Makeup primer is a base for foundation or face makeup that allows it to go on smoother and last longer. Choosing a primer can be a daunting task but fear no more, here are 5 easy steps to choose the best primer for you.

  1. Begin with your type of skin:
Dry skin: look for a “hydrating” primer.
Oily skin: look for a “mattifying” primer.
Sensitive skin: look for simple primers that are oil-free, fragrance-free, paraben-free, and so on.
  2. Color correct:
Dull: look for a light pink tinted primer to add a flow.
Yellow or sallow: look for a light lavender tinted primer to brighten the skin.
Redness: look for a light green tinted primer to neutralize the redness.
  3. Help with specific skin conditions:
Acne: look for oil-free, oil-absorbing primers with salicylic acid.
Large pores and fine lines: look for pore-minimizing and anti-aging primers.
  4. Match your foundation: Use a primer that has the same base (oil or water-based) as your foundation so they don’t repel each other.
  5. Try it: Once you have a few options, try a sample on your hand. Let it dry and apply a little of your foundation. If the foundation goes on smoothly, then it’s a good match.
